How to Activate DEWA in Dubai (and How Ejari Connects)
To activate DEWA you register Ejari first, then use DEWA’s Move-in service with your Ejari number and DEWA premise number. You pay a security deposit of AED 2,000 for an apartment or AED 4,000 for a villa, plus an activation charge of around AED 155, and the electricity and water are usually connected within about 24 hours. Ejari and DEWA are linked: without a registered Ejari, DEWA will not connect the unit.
- Register Ejari before DEWA
- Deposit AED 2,000 apartment, AED 4,000 villa
- Activation around AED 155
- Connected within about 24 hours
How Ejari and DEWA connect
DEWA needs proof your tenancy is registered, which is the Ejari certificate. From it, DEWA takes two things: your Ejari number and the property’s DEWA premise number. That is why the order matters. Register Ejari first, then open the DEWA account. Trying it the other way is a common cause of delay.

The DEWA security deposit is returned when you close the account at move-out, less any final bill. Keep the receipt, and close the account when your tenancy ends so the deposit comes back to you rather than sitting with DEWA.
